One of the most amazing aspects of D.C. is the easy access to natural environments and preserved areas. Nowhere is this more evident than in Rock Creek Park. Comprised of over 2000 square acres and established in 1890, Rock Creek Park is one of the largest and oldest urban parks in America. It is maintained by the National Park Service, and is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The vast expanses of Rock Creek Park are known for including favorite hangout spots of many previous U.S. Presidents.
Naturally, Rock Creek Park is filled with all kinds of opportunities for activities and exercise. Here’s a quick guide to things you can do in and around Rock Creek Park. Enjoy one of DC’s most iconic natural areas!

Interestingly, the Center also houses an extraordinary planetarium. Many of the park’s ranger-guided tours start out at the Nature Center, so it’s good to familiarize yourself with the station.
